LINTEL is a UK journal which combines the work of contemporary artists with selections from old texts, printed in A4 format on heavyweight, uncoated papers. The journal is published in two editions, a 'Standard Edition', which comprises the journal itself, and an artist-directed 'Special Edition', which includes additional material in a special presentation portfolio.
VOL 3 NO 1 features paintings by Mark Brennan and text selections adapted from 'Contributions to Meteorology for the Year 1861, from observations taken at Isle Jesus, Canada East' by Charles Smallwood, 1862.
Mark Brennan was born in England in 1968. Much of his childhood was spent exploring the Scottish Highlands, from where he derived a passion for natural landscapes. At the age of 19 he emigrated to Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Often producing small-scale works en plein air in wilderness locations, or provincial and national parks across Canada, his work is deeply engaged with nature and environmentalism.
